We have just fixed the first issue, ramp texture only working with the primary directional light. It has been fixed for both the 3.8 and 4.0-beta branch. Thanks for reporting!

Unfortunately we could not yet reproduce the second reported issue:
If you turn on Write to Depth and Receive Shadows and use Ramp Texture, the shadow become a weird outline:
At a quick test we received correct shadow, at least after the above bugfix. Could you please test with the latest updated shader package? If the issue persists, could you please send us a minimal Unity projects that still reproduces the issue, as a zip package to contact@esotericsoftware.com?
