Subject: Effectively Animating in Top-Down Perspective

Hi Erika 🙂

Thanks for the response on my forum thread! I wanted to follow up via PM as well and ask if you're available for contracting work. We wouldn't be prepared to start right away because our character needs a redesign to fit better into our camera angle. After that though, I'm looking for someone who can bring the characters to life, and it looks like you have some incredible experience in doing just that.

Let me know!

PS

I checked your website and noticed you participated in the global game jam a few years ago. I co-created the GGJ back in 2009, so seeing games that come out of that event always makes me smile!

Hello Zooch!

I work full time for Esoteric Software but I happily take side gigs if I can do them in the evenings or over the weekend.

I'm strongest in setting up and organizing projects for Spine, as well as creating flexible rigs. And I can, of course, animate the character too or prepare the ground to let you take over after the rig is done. (both options are perfectly fine with me!)

My hourly rate is 40$/h for rigging/animating and I can roughly estimate 15 hours to rig your character with one skin in all directions.

Regarding the Global Game Jam, that's amazing! Happy memories accompany it and I participated many times in Milan! I also participated to the Nordic Game Jam which is a sister event afaik. (but sadly had a bit of a bad experience with the theme being secretly announced before the start of the even as the wifi password, some people starting to work, impossible to follow the talks without anxiety of losing time, and overall not a great organization the year I've been there) I still love the GGJ with passion and I'm thinking of joining one at a different venue perhaps! here's my profile: https://globalgamejam.org/users/erikari

Cheers!

Hi Erika,

Thanks for the detailed response and hour estimate! It all sounds perfectly reasonable - and honestly a bit exciting - to me. Like I mentioned in my initial email, we have some character redesigning to do before we would be able to have you get started, but if you're cool with it, I'll contact you again once we are finishing up that stage.

You have some awesome GGJ projects 🙂 I'm sorry the Nordic event didn't go as smoothly - we convinced their founder to work with us when we made GGJ and I'm not sure if they ever recovered from losing him!

Zach

Great!
Sure I can wait, if you want you can also write me if you'd like to have a little review of the PSD for Spine, although it can also totally be done at the end without problems.

For reference, this video explains how to set up the file:

I'll be waiting for a mail then (:
